This bakery is amazing! What a hidden gem! The location is a little hard to find, but WELL WORTH the effort. We tried a wide variety of bakery items and sandwiches. Everything is exceptionally delicious. The cinnamon rolls are the BEST I have ever tasted. We purchased two types of fougasse which look and smell fantastic. We cannot wait to try those. The sandwiches are delicious as well! The bread is PERFECTION!! I definitely recommend and we will be back for more!!

This incredible bakery in Nelson is tucked away down a back alley, but it’s well worth finding. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted by the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the irresistible scent of freshly baked bread.
One time, I stopped by for fresh buns, and they just happened to have that dough out—without hesitation, they offered to make me a fresh batch on the spot, ready in an hour. That level of care and dedication is rare and truly sets this place apart.
If you’re in Nelson and craving fresh bread or a warm treat, I highly recommend swinging by and supporting this fantastic local bakery. You won’t be disappointed!

We were originally planning to head back to the Vancouver area early in the morning, but my wife insisted we stop by this bakery first. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and the air was filled with the delicious aroma of cakes—not to mention the beautiful girl from the photos, who was even more charming in person. Everything was just perfect. Definitely worth a visit. Thank you—you made my day!

Wow! This is a hidden gem that is worth a stop. Delicious French Bakery with fresh sourdough base to many of it's delights including pain au chocolate, brioche, and other tasty delectables. The coffee was high quality and fresh brewed, the atmosphere was vibrant but not over stimulating, and the owner was incredibly friendly and helpful. I loved the artisinal woodcrafts for sale and stylish decor as well the fresh flowers throughout the store. The effort to add class is obvious and the attention to detail was astonishing. It was priced reasonably for handmade bread. My favourite was the bike stands outside and the ease of getting to the location. The only con was the parking was limited but I feel like that is par for the course in Nelson which is known to walking and bicycle centred city.

La Ruelle bakery is an excellent bakery. My husband and I are gluten intolerant but not full blown celiacs (thankfully!). So, when we eat wheat, it's a splurge. Everything we ate for lunch was delicious. The sandwiches, especially, were fabulous. My husband's sandwich of brie, honey, rocket and salami was one of the best sandwiches we've ever eaten. We will definitely eat at La Ruelle when we are in Nelson the next time.
The staff was attentive and kind.
The outdoor dining was beautifully styled, like a little fairy garden.

Everything in this bakery is delicious! Absolute perfection. I often stop in for a sandwich and leave with all kinds of goodies. The staff are friendly, and often out at the markets with wonderful snacks and breads! Tucked away in the alley just off Baker Street, definitely try this if you're in Nelson.

I’d give this place more than just five stars. It’s a cute little French bakery that is tucked in an alley, so it’s easy to miss. But when you find it and open the door, be prepared for amazing aromas of hand made artisans breads, pastries and more. We were fortunate enough to watch the teams making some of their breads, something you don’t get to see in many other bakeries. The team was engaging and made us feel like guests instead of customers. This is on our list of places not to miss when visiting Nelson.

What an absolutely fantastic bakery. The baguettes are perfect - crusty with an almost creamy interior. The croissants are heaven - crisp, rich and buttery. Plus everyone seems so happy and welcoming. What a gem - you will not be disappointed! One thing to note - this is a takeout place - no tables.
